Turtles: in the past 10 years I've probably seen a total of 10 turtles crossing the road!!?

In the past 6 weeks or so I've seen at least 30 turtles (2 box, 15 painted, 8 snappers) crossing the road. I've stopped and saved many of them BUT my question is .... Why so many this year? I live in N.E. Ohio and the Spring has been very wet.
