Can i let my turtle roam free?

i have a baby snapping turtle, but i was wondering if i can take her out and let her roam my bedroom once she is large enough to spot across the bedroom. i have a friend and his mom lets their red ear sliders walk around there house for 2 days straight, then go in the tank for 5 days. they have dogs and cats and birds and there turtles are all older than 20 years and healthy. so can my snapper do it, he is tamed already, ive raised him since his birth so dont lecture me on (he will bite) and i just wwant to know if its safe for him, and salmonella and all!!
